Vice President of Operations - Manufacturing

This is a VP of Operations role for a manufacturing leader who wants the opportunity to make a visible impact.

The business is looking for someone who can take a fresh look at a heavy fabrication operation, identify opportunities to improve flow and productivity, and turn those improvements into stronger overall performance. You'll have broad responsibility across manufacturing and fabrication, with the ability to influence how the operation runs, from Lean initiatives and production metrics to leadership development and accountability on the plant floor.'

The opportunity is bigger than hitting a production number. It's about building a more efficient, disciplined manufacturing operation and developing a team that can sustain that performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess manufacturing performance and identify the constraints limiting throughput.
• Lead production and heavy fabrication operations against clear productivity, quality, and delivery targets.
• Establish daily and weekly metrics that create visibility and accountability.
• Apply Lean principles to reduce waste, cycle time, scrap, rework, and changeover.
• Improve equipment utilization, capacity planning, and overall production flow.
• Develop supervisors and managers through direct coaching and performance management.
• Set clear expectations for pace, urgency, and accountability across the plant.
• Oversee supporting operational areas including quality, safety, maintenance, warehousing, and shipping.
• Partner with executive leadership on operational planning, labor cost, capital investment, and growth.

Required Experience

• Senior manufacturing leadership experience overseeing a plant or multiple manufacturing departments.
• Significant experience in heavy welding/fabrication manufacturing.
• Strong Lean Manufacturing or equivalent continuous improvement background.
• Demonstrated success materially improving productivity and manufacturing throughput.
• Strong understanding of CNC operations.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold manufacturing teams accountable.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Working understanding of P&L and the relationship between manufacturing performance and profitability.

Nice to Have

• Pre-engineered metal building or structural steel manufacturing experience.
• Custom or made-to-order manufacturing background.
• Six Sigma or related continuous improvement certification.
• Experience supporting manufacturing expansion or capital equipment investments.
