Staff Software Engineer, Databases

Salary: $180,000 - 220,000 per year Requirements:
- We are looking for 15+ years of experience using Python or C++ in a systems software environment.
- We need experience designing and building large-scale distributed storage systems, particularly graph databases.
- We value a proven history of delivering reliable, high-performance software in large-scale or mission-critical settings.
- A bachelors degree in a technical field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with graph database platforms such as Nebula, Neo4j, or Gravlax will help candidates stand out.
- Background in high-performance computing and data architecture is a plus.
- Familiarity with computer architecture is advantageous.
- Experience with high-performance networking is beneficial.
- Experience with highly scalable distributed systems in reliability- and uptime-critical environments is desirable.
- A PhD in a related technical discipline is a bonus, but not required.
- We design and implement data systems that support our quantum computing infrastructure.
- We scale and enhance our core graph database systems to handle rapidly growing size and complexity.
- We participate in design discussions and code reviews.
- We collaborate closely with software, hardware, and research teams across PsiQuantum.
- We test and maintain database software.
- We promote strong software engineering practices and set a high standard for code quality within our team.

We are PsiQuantum, founded in 2016, and our mission is to build the first useful quantum computers with million-qubit, fault-tolerant systems based on silicon photonics. We are scaling utility-level quantum computing through major initiatives in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, Illinois, supported by government funding. The OS Core Team works at the intersection of software, electronics, system architecture, and validation to build the scalable control plane and operating system for our photonic quantum computers. This role is part of a mission-critical effort, and we offer full-time compensation, equity, and benefits, with base pay that varies by location and experience.
