CS 310: Social Issues and Professional Practices in Computing Position: Lecturer - Academic Year Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Modality: In‑Person College: College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Department: Computer Science Course Description Examines the larger societal context of computing to develop an understanding of relevant social, ethical, legal and professional issues. The course covers social context, professional ethics, intellectual property, privacy, professional communication, safety, reliability, and sustainability. Students are exposed to diverse areas within computer science while developing technology solutions to mitigate undesirable effects of computing technology and the internet. Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields; or four years of relevant professional experience. Compliance with California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy (employment must be performed within California). Preferred Qualifications A doctorate or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields. Experience teaching similar courses at a four‑year university. Demonstrated intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community. Salary Anticipated hiring salary: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month.
