Patient Access Rep

Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun (Days Vary), Nights, 6:30pm-7am Posting #: 1024354 Employee Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Patient Access Representative performs efficient and orderly registration of all patients. Acts as primary liaison for patients receiving professional and hospital services at Phoenix Children’s. Prepares admission forms, obtains necessary documentation and signatures, and confirms demographic information when the patient and/or guarantor present for services. Collects co-pay and deductible amounts at time of service. Some travel from site to site may be necessary based on business needs of the department. Position Duties Arrives patients who present for professional and hospital services that have been pre-registered and collect co-pay and deductible amounts. Obtains all necessary signatures from the guarantor at the time of registration or arrival. Accurately documents all information in the appropriate fields and/or account notes. Maintains accuracy when entering demographic and insurance information in the system. Courteously answers the telephone and answers all questions in a timely manner. Identifies and refers uninsured and underinsured patients to the Financial Counselor. Inquires patient account system(s) to identify any previous unpaid liability in AMPFM/Misys. Maintains a positive working relationship with patients/guarantors, insurance companies, government entities, clinical personnel, co‑workers and management to promote teamwork, cooperation and a positive public image for Phoenix Children’s. Organizes, prioritizes, and monitors daily work activity to ensure that complete, accurate, and compliant registration has been performed in a timely manner. Participates in a variety of unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels. Performs registration in appropriate HIS system, verifies insurance coverage, obtains authorization for patients who present for professional and hospital services and have not been pre-registered. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent - Required Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field - Preferred Experience 1 year of related office or retail experience including direct customer contact and service, or equivalent combination of education and experience - Required Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience - Preferred AMPFM, Misys, or HIS platform experience - Preferred Special Skills Effective verbal and written communication skills, professional demeanor, team player with a customer‑focused attitude - Required Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ICD-9/CPT codes and an understanding of HIPAA privacy laws - Preferred Ability to speak and write Spanish - Preferred Follow any payer or governmental requirement as required by organization - Required Additional Requirements Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association - Preferred Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential Physical Requirement: Climbing - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Feeling (sensing textures and temperatures) - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Fine Motor Skills (pinching, gripping, etc) - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Hearing - Frequently Physical Requirement: Pushing/pulling - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Reaching - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Sitting - Frequently Physical Requirement: Standing - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Talking - Frequently Physical Requirement: Tasting/smelling - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Walking - Frequently Physical Requirement: Near Vision - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Far Vision - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Color Discrimination - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Use of keyboard, mouse and/or computer equipment - Constantly Physical Requirement: Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance - Occasionally Physical Requirement: Lift more than 35 pounds without assistance - Occasionally Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential: Inside office environment - Applicable #J-18808-Ljbffr
