Customer Service Specialist II

Job Opportunity

The City of Berkeley is now accepting applications for the Customer Service Specialist II position! In this role, the incumbent will perform a variety of routine to complex customer service functions, which include payment handling and processing, issuing permits and/or licenses, answering customer inquiries at a public service counter and/or over the telephone, and performing related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of clerical or administrative support experience, one year of which was in a customer service, banking, billing, cashiering, or public contact environment. Successful completion of college-level courses in subjects such as accounting, business practices, information technology, psychology, or related subjects is desirable. Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

Exam Process

The exam process will include, but is not limited to: application review for minimum qualifications and a multiple-choice written exam (tentatively scheduled for September 23, 2026). Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Pre-Employment Process
