Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An established educational setting near Sunnyvale, CA, is seeking both an in-person Teacher of the Visually Impaired and an experienced braillist. These are rewarding contract positions that offer the opportunity to foster growth and independence in students with unique learning needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid teaching certification or credentials for visually impaired students (for teaching role)
• Expertise in Braille transcription, including mastery of current Braille codes and tactile learning materials (for braillist role)
• Experience working in a school environment is preferred
• Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, specialists, and families
• Strong commitment to advocating for students with visual impairments
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired, adapting curriculum and materials as needed (for teaching role)
• Assess and address individual student needs to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Transcribe classroom and curriculum materials into accessible formats using Braille and assistive technology (for braillist role)
• Support classroom integration and student participation in activities
• Provide guidance and training to educational staff regarding the needs of visually impaired students
• Maintain accurate records and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team on student progress and accommodations
