Required Licensure / Certification Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment. Physical Requirements The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds on a daily basis and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments may occur. Shift 7 AM–7 30 PM, 36 hours/week; may work weekends and holidays as needed. Job Summary Registered Nurses in the 3 Medicine Acute Care area provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The unit offers acute, comprehensive inpatient care for patients with medical diseases and surgical complications, including diabetes, endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, wound care, and pre‑ and post‑operative cases. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating medical and surgical complications and providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care. Tasks encompass assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties to Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Collaborative teamwork with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes; utilization of the nursing process and a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care with a focus on patient satisfaction. Preferred Education and Experience BSN and one year of RN experience preferred.
