The Prince George's County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Chief, Transit Planning & Innovations grade G31 position in the Office of Transportation.
This senior leadership role operates in a fast-paced, high-impact environment and drives the strategic direction, performance, and advancement of the County's transit planning and innovation portfolio. The position provides executive oversight of fixed-route service planning, mobility programs, transit infrastructure initiatives, and emerging transportation solutions, while ensuring alignment with federal requirements, regional priorities, and County mobility goals. The incumbent leads a high-performing team to develop and implement innovative, progressive transit programs that respond to evolving customer needs, operational demands, funding opportunities, and regional transportation trends while advancing equitable, sustainable, and customer-focused mobility solutions that improve system efficiency, enhance the rider experience, strengthen service reliability, and position the County as a proactive leader in modern public transportation.
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T's workforce keeps the County's various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in business, Public Administration, Urban/Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or Transportation or a closely related field.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in transit planning, transportation program management, or public sector mobility services including at least two (2) years of supervision over a subordinate staff.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience MAY also be considered. Please Note: There is NO equivalency for supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience overseeing contracts and vendor performance within a public procurement environment.
- Experience with transit data systems and planning tools (e.g., Trapeze, Remix, GIS, or similar platforms)
- Demonstrated experience managing fixed route transit planning, service design, and performance analytics.
- Strong knowledge of federal transit programs and requirements, including FTA grant management and NTD reporting and audits.
