The Training & Education Specialist is responsible for supporting the CNC Operator Readiness Essentials (CORE) program. What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For Temporary Training & Education Specialist Position (Casual) Anticipated duration is 8/17/26 - 7/19/27 (total hours will not exceed the fiscal year limit) Primary Location: Portland Metro Workforce TC Additional Locations: OMIC Training Center and PCC Sylvania Campus Nature and Scope of Work The Training & Education Specialist is responsible for supporting the CNC Operator Readiness Essentials (CORE) program. This program will lead to skill enhancement, job placement, and continuing education opportunities for a diverse student population. The Training & Education Specialist will recruit and onboard students to the CORE class, instruct soft‑skills lessons (such as resume writing, and interview preparation), support administrative functions of the class (such as room reservations and data tracking) and support a wide range of tasks related to the class (such as planning the program graduation and employer interview day). Principal Accountabilities Supports a short‑term workforce training program for a diverse student population. Duties include the development of curriculum, assessment instruments, and student evaluation methods. Recruits, onboards and supports diverse students in accessing the CORE class. This includes helping students through the PCC application and registration process, leading the CORE orientation, and supporting students with resource navigation throughout the class. It may also include participation in outreach and recruitment activities. Researches labor market information, employer needs, and student needs in order to continually improve the program. Provides instruction to a diverse population of students enrolled in the training programs in the area of essential workplace and job‑search skills. Supports the administrative functions of the class, such as scheduling rooms, printing materials, updating class slides, tracking student data, and maintaining student evaluations. Serves as an advocate in monitoring and assessing the progress of students to ensure their training, employment and education goals are being met. Provides student services such as an explanation of policies, procedures and processes, orientation to facilities and equipment, distribution of appropriate instructional materials, and set‑up assistance working in partnership with other program staff. Supports the long‑term success of the program through promotional support, such as writing student success stories and maintaining success metrics. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Environment Work is typically performed in an office/classroom environment. The Training & Education Specialist will be on‑site at Sylvania or OMIC Training Center throughout the duration of the CORE class, and will work from the Opportunity Center at 42nd Avenue or Willow Creek Opportunity Center outside of program instructional hours, with an option to work from home once per week when class is not in session. The role requires the ability to drive and use of personal vehicle. Physical Requirements: Moderate physical exertion. Frequent standing or walking. Occasional lifting of training equipment up to 30 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Social Science, Communications, or related field. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year‑for‑year basis. Two (2) years of professional experience in an educational or training environment. Demonstrated experience working with college students, individuals from low‑income communities, or at‑risk populations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Job search strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace professional standards. Adult learning theories, instructional techniques, assessment methods, and competency‑based evaluation. Unique barriers faced by diverse and underrepresented student populations, along with equitable support strategies. Local labor market trends, employer expectations, and manufacturing career pathways. College application/registration procedures and student record management practices. Skills in: Tailoring instruction and communication styles to actively engage, support, and instruct diverse adult learners from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Designing, adapting, and refining practical curricula, learning modules, and assessment tools focused on essential career readiness skills (e.g., resume writing, interviewing, and workplace communication). Tracking student metrics, organizing event logistics (such as graduations and hiring days), and organizing day‑to‑day schedules with attention to detail. Ability to: Work with an ethnically and culturally diverse staff and student population. Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work in an environment with regular interruptions. Communicate information in a clear and understandable manner. Operate a variety of office equipment. Communicate effectively in oral and written form. This position will remain open until filled.
