ParamedicThe Paramedic participates as a member of the nursing staff by performing various assessments, treatments and technical tasks as requested. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Paramedic assists with the delivery of non-critical and critical emergency care within the limits of his/her training, and documents that care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.Essential Job Functions:Provides advanced emergency care in the hospital setting.Assesses emergency patients and assigns appropriate triage level.Assists with patient transport.Assists with room cleaning and turnover.Collects and documents data on Emergency Department records including but not limited to vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturations, height/weight and peak flows).May perform all procedures within the scope of the Paramedic license and as in accordance with hospital policies and at the direction of a provider, including:cardiac monitoring including cardio version and defibrillationmoderate sedationassistance with Rapid Sequence Inductions (RSI)IV insertion and maintenancecast application and removaloxygen therapysetting up sterile proceduresear irrigationsinitial care and treatment of burns as well as follow-up care and debridementcleans and dresses woundsblood draws (except legal samples)nasal and oral intubation at the direction of a providerintraosseous insertion and infusiongastric lavagefoley catheter insertion and removalpatient teaching on the use of crutches, splints, dressings and wound careDocuments all assessment and care given in accordance to hospital policy.Assists with emergency procedures including but not limited to a-line and chest tube insertion, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis and central lines.Administers all medications listed and approved by the state for Paramedics.Administers medications categories below that are not on the state list:Narcotic pain medications, oral, IV or IM.IV Piggy back antibiotics and antiemetics not currently on the approved state list.ImmunizationsIV thrombolytics with nurse/provider in attendance.High risk medications with a nurse serving as the second checkOver the counter medicationsBlood products with a nurse.Witness narcotic waste and serve as the second check for high risk medications and blood products.Performs ACLS procedures per license.Provides care and assistance as needed for critical care transports.Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required.Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.QualificationsEducation:Required: High School Graduate or equivalentCompletion of an approved Paramedic ProgramWork Experience:Required: Experience in a health care setting.Preferred: Three to five years experience in a hospital setting serving the same age/type of patient population.Licensure/Certifications/Registrations:Required: Must be a certified EMT-P (Paramedic) in the State of New Hampshire. Have current BLS certification (adult, child, and infant), PALS and ACLS.Preferred: Specialized trauma courses.Other Skills/Knowledge:Required: Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient and staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources.Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner.
