Ox & Olive, a modern American steakhouse and martini bar in Georgetown, is seeking a driven, hospitality-focused Assistant General Manager to help lead our front-of-house team.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager serves as second-in-command, leading daily service and overseeing key operational areas such as scheduling, hiring, training, inventory, ordering, and maintenance.

This is a hands-on role for an organized, energetic leader who is passionate about creating warm, polished, and memorable guest experiences. The ideal candidate has experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant and is interested in growing into a General Manager role.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily front-of-house operations and manage the floor during service

• Set the tone for a polished, energetic, and hospitality-driven environment

• Lead the restaurant in the General Manager’s absence

• Create weekly schedules and manage labor and overtime targets

• Review the tip pool and adjust staffing as needed

• Manage front-of-house supplies, equipment orders, and vendor relationships

• Oversee inventory with the General Manager

• Coordinate restaurant repairs and maintenance

• Support hiring, onboarding, training, development, and retention

• Participate in performance reviews and disciplinary actions

• Assist with cost controls and weekly sales and labor reporting

• Monitor reservations and identify opportunities to increase revenue

• Lead pre-service meetings and communicate food, wine, and cocktail updates

• Maintain and improve service standards

• Collaborate with the culinary and beverage teams to create a cohesive guest experience

• Build relationships with regulars, VIPs, and industry guests

• Resolve guest concerns with professionalism, confidence, and care

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and DC Department of Health standards

• Maintain a clean, organized, and beautifully presented restaurant

• Foster a positive and accountable workplace where the team can have fun while delivering excellent service

Qualifications

• At least three years of leadership experience in an upscale, fast-paced restaurant

• Previous experience as an Assistant General Manager, Restaurant Manager, or Floor Manager

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• A hands-on, service-focused management style

• Thorough understanding of hospitality, guest engagement, and service standards

• Experience managing schedules, labor, ordering, inventory, and employee relations

• Working knowledge of Toast, OpenTable, or similar restaurant systems

• Solid knowledge of steaks, wine, spirits, and cocktails; martini and classic cocktail knowledge is a plus

• Understanding of general and local HR practices and procedures

• Financial awareness, including labor management and cost control

• Ability to train, mentor, and develop a high-performing team

• Positive, solutions-oriented approach with a commitment to excellence and accountability

WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, Bartending knowledge or comparable beverage certification is a plus.
