Job Summary The Group Supervisor will provide opportunities for JFY youth to ameliorate criminogenic needs and acquire life skills through groups, coaching, and direct interaction in the milieu. The supervisor also offers organized recreational and cultural activities for youth to exercise, socialize, and share common interests with peers. The role applies specialized skills, training, and planning to meet youth needs; monitors check‑ins, engages youth in group process throughout the day, leads five skill groups a week, and provides updates on each youth’s progress during treatment team meetings. Essential Functions Ensure that youth in the JYF achieve their individual goals in collaboration with their YLS goals. Coordinate and facilitate structured activities and workshops for JYF residents and lead groups in preparatory courses and trainings. Attend all meetings required by supervisor and participate in professional workshops and seminars to further knowledge and resources for youth. Conduct regular safety inspections of recreation equipment and grounds. Plan the program calendar and daily groups and activities. Assist with youth engagement in daily program services. Requisition, secure, and inventory necessary materials, supplies, and equipment. Motivate residents to engage in recreation programs by participating and leading specific activities; provide instruction by explaining and demonstrating proper techniques, procedures, and rules for activities, games, and sports. Maintain accurate documentation and complete progress notes within five days of the event date in CONNECTIONS, per state and agency standards. Support the Milieu Treatment Model by teaching youth to make lasting behavioral changes, preparing them for self‑sufficiency through education and life‑skills development. Maintain and update program documentation. Work closely with the Residential Manager and staff members to ensure quality services. Observe and coach staff on their interactions with supported youth within the milieu. Conduct five groups per week, including skill groups and seven Challenges Groups. Participate and present in staff meetings to discuss youth progress. Attend treatment team meetings and provide information on group participation, Pathway, and skill acquisition assignments. Provide input on YLS case plans and BSPs, monitor progress, and make recommendations on skills and activities. Assign program work to youth and support them and their advocates. Create diary cards with youth and monitor weekly completion. Collaborate with Fair Future Coaches and Fair Future Education and Vocational specialists on Preparing Youth For Adulthood (PYA), facilitating groups and recreational/prosocial activities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Competencies High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in human services preferred. Experience working with youth and families in residential settings. Experience with child welfare and/or juvenile justice fields. Computer literate. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of individual and group behavior. Ongoing training in counseling techniques, including verbal and physical crisis intervention/de‑escalation. Understanding of the functions of concerning behaviors. Understanding of child development and family & community systems. Supervisory Responsibility No Work Environment The Group Supervisor will be based at their assigned residential facility, responsible for youth and program activities. The role is primarily in the residential setting with no work‑from‑home days. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full‑time position totaling 35 hours per week. Daily schedule and hours will fluctuate to meet the needs of the youth and programming. The supervisor must maintain a schedule that includes day, evening, and occasional weekend hours. Travel (if required) Travel will be necessary to navigate NYC and surrounding neighborhood roads, public transportation, and to visit JYF facilities and service provider locations. The supervisor will provide their own transportation and related expenses will be reimbursed. Physical Requirements Must be able to pass the Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training.
