Mortgage Capital Markets Portfolio Management Director

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Mortgage Capital Markets Portfolio Management Director to lead Mortgage Trading, Asset Sales, and Pipeline/Warehouse Hedging within Capital Markets Secondary Marketing and Portfolio Management. This senior leadership role will establish strategic direction and drive disciplined execution across mortgage whole loan acquisitions and sales, pipeline and warehouse risk management, hedging, and best execution.

The Director will play a critical role in optimizing financial and risk outcomes by translating mortgage market conditions into effective portfolio, pricing, hedging, and execution strategies. Working closely with partners across Home Lending, Finance, Risk, Servicing, and Operations, this leader will help ensure capital markets activities support broader Home Lending objectives within the firm’s risk and return framework while building and developing a high-performing team of mortgage capital markets professionals.

In this role, you will:

• Lead the development and execution of mortgage capital markets strategies across whole loan acquisitions and sales, agency securitization, pipeline and warehouse hedging, investor delivery, and portfolio optimization
• Direct mortgage trading, asset sales, and pipeline and warehouse hedging activities , ensuring effective controls, disciplined execution, and alignment with financial and risk objectives
• Oversee interest rate exposure, hedge effectiveness, best execution, gain-on-sale performance, market liquidity, and other key financial and risk indicators to optimize portfolio performance within established risk parameters
• Make strategic decisions and provide direction for mortgage trading, retain-versus-sell analysis, securitization, and counterparty execution within established risk appetite, governance, and approval frameworks
• Translate complex mortgage market conditions, rate movements, volatility, prepayment behavior, and policy developments into actionable portfolio, pricing, hedging, and execution strategies
• Lead strategic relationships with investors, agencies, dealers, and other capital markets counterparties to support execution, market access, and business objectives
• Partner with senior leaders across Home Lending, Finance, Risk, Servicing, and Operations to align capital markets strategies with broader financial, operational, risk, and business objectives
• Manage and develop a high-performing organization of managers and experienced mortgage capital markets professionals , including resource allocation, performance management, talent development, and succession planning
• Foster a culture of accountability, sound risk management, and talent development to achieve business objectives and retain critical capabilities

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in Mortgage Capital Markets Portfolio Management or a combination of the following: mortgage backed securities trading, pipeline or warehouse management, mortgage servicing rights hedging, sales strategy development and execution experience or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
• 4+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Extensive experience with mortgage whole loan trading, asset sales, pipeline or warehouse hedging, and secondary market execution
• Experience developing and executing mortgage capital markets strategies, including interest rate risk management, hedging, best execution, and portfolio optimization
• Strong knowledge of mortgage-backed securities, agency securitization, mortgage pricing, market liquidity, prepayment behavior, and gain-on-sale economics
• Experience translating complex mortgage market and economic conditions into portfolio, pricing, hedging, and execution strategies
• Experience managing relationships with investors, agencies, dealers, and other mortgage capital markets counterparties
• Demonstrated experience leading managers and senior-level professionals in a complex mortgage capital markets environment
• Experience with relevant mortgage capital markets analytics, risk management, and trading platforms

Job Expectations:

• Travel of up to 20%
• This position requires compliance with all mortgages regulatory requirements and Wells Fargo’s compliance policies related to these requirements. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and required reporting of certain incidents.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities. $185,000.00 - $300,000.00
