Senior Payroll Specialist

LHH is partnering with an innovative technology company seeking a Payroll Accountant / Payroll Analyst to join their team during an exciting period of growth and transformation. This is a highly visible role where you'll have the opportunity to own payroll operations, partner cross-functionally, and contribute to process improvements that support a growing workforce.

What You'll Do:

• Process bi-weekly payroll in Paylocity
• Audit payroll data for accuracy, including earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits
• Manage timecard reviews and payroll approvals
• Support payroll-related activities including benefits, workers' compensation, and employee reimbursements
• Review and approve employee expense reports
• Identify discrepancies, research issues, and recommend solutions
• Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and support general ledger activity
• Generate payroll and financial reports for Accounting, Finance, and People Operations teams
• Partner closely with HR regarding new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and employee data updates
• Assist with audits, compliance reporting, and internal controls
• Contribute to payroll process optimization initiatives and system improvements

What You Bring:

• 5+ years of payroll experience, including exposure to accounting functions
• Experience with Paylocity, Workday, ADP, UKG, or similar payroll platforms
• Strong knowledge of California payroll laws and compliance requirements
• Solid understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger processes
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and reporting
• Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of critical processes
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

Nice to Have:

• Experience supporting a technology, SaaS, software, or high-growth company
• Multi-state payroll experience
• Exposure to stock compensation, equity administration, or employee incentive programs
• CPP certification (or working toward certification)
• Experience participating in payroll system implementations, integrations, or process improvement initiatives
