Job Description
Job Title: Vice President of Engineering
\nCompany: Moses Engineers
\nJob Type: Full Time
\nJob Location: On-Site (909 Poydras Street, Suite 1100, New Orleans, LA 70112)
\n \nAbout Moses Engineers
\nFounded in 1947, Moses Engineers is a New Orleans-based MEP consulting firm that designs the
\nmechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems for commercial,
\ninstitutional, and historic buildings across the Gulf South, with a strong focus on sustainable
\ndesign. Our portfolio spans K-12 and higher education, government and civic facilities, hospitality,
\nhealthcare, multi-family residential, and large public assembly venues, including historic
\nrenovations, adaptive reuse projects, and LEED-certified buildings.
\n \nRole Overview:
\nThe VP/Director of Engineering will play a crucial part in driving our company's growth and
\nmaintaining our competitive edge in the industry, serving as the principal advisor and key support
\nto the firm Owner.
\n \nThis role requires an experienced MEP engineer. The successful candidate will come from an
\nMEP consulting engineering background and will have personally designed and led projects
\ncomparable to those in the Moses Engineers portfolio: commercial, institutional, and historic
\nbuildings in the Gulf South, with demonstrated experience in sustainable design.
\n \nThis role is integral to the success of Moses Engineers' operations, requiring a dynamic leader
\nwith a strategic mindset, deep MEP technical expertise, and the ability to foster a high-performing
\nteam. The VP/Director of Engineering will support business development efforts, act in the firm's
\nbest interest independently, and ensure effective communication with the Owner, while managing
\npeople, projects, and reporting.
\n \nRequired Project Experience:
\nCandidates must have hands-on design and leadership experience on MEP projects similar to
\nthose Moses Engineers delivers, including several of the following:
\n• Commercial buildings, including office towers, tenant build-outs, and mixed-use developments.
\n• Institutional facilities such as K-12 schools, universities, government buildings, civic centers,
\nand healthcare facilities.
\n• Hospitality projects, including hotels and residences.
\n• Historic renovation, restoration, and adaptive reuse projects, including integrating modern
\nMEP systems into existing and historic structures.
\n• Large public assembly and convention facilities.
\n• Sustainable and LEED-certified projects, including energy modeling, high-efficiency HVAC and
\nlighting, and renewable energy such as photovoltaic systems.
\n• Resilient design for the Gulf South climate, including hurricane and flood resilience, elevated
\nequipment, emergency and standby power, and hot, humid-climate HVAC and
\ndehumidification.
\n \nKey Responsibilities:
\n \nStrategic Planning and Oversight:
\n■ Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company's goals and
\nobjectives.
\n■ Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of MEP engineering projects, ensuring
\nthey meet quality, budget, and timeline requirements.
\n \nTeam Leadership and Development:
\n■ Lead, mentor, and manage the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection
\nengineering and design staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
\n■ Identify skill gaps and provide training and development opportunities for team members.
\n \nProject Management:
\n■ Supervise and coordinate project activities, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and
\ntimelines are adhered to.
\n■ Implement project management best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
\n■ Coordinate MEP design with architects, structural engineers, owners, and contractors
\nthrough all phases of design and construction administration.
\n \nProcess Improvement:
\n■ Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes and practices to enhance
\nproductivity and quality.
\n■ Utilize engineering principles and analytical techniques to drive process improvements.
\nTechnical Expertise:
\n■ Apply MEP technical knowledge to guide and review the design of mechanical, electrical,
\nplumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems, including HVAC, power distribution,
\nlighting, emergency power, domestic water and sanitary systems, fire sprinkler and fire
\nalarm systems, and data, security, and communications systems.
\n■ Serve as senior quality reviewer on drawings, specifications, and calculations before issue.
\n■ Lead the firm's sustainable design practice, including energy modeling and LEED project
\nsupport.
\n■ Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including the
\nInternational Building Codes, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE standards, and energy codes, as well
\nas local and state authority requirements.
\n \nBusiness Development Support:
\n■ Collaborate with the business development team to identify new opportunities and support
\nproposal development.
\n■ Leverage industry connections to foster relationships with potential clients and partners,
\nincluding architects, developers, and institutional and public-sector owners.
\n■ Meet with clients and prospects to develop and maintain relationships.
\n \nBudget Management:
\n■ Develop and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of
\nresources.
\n■ Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
\nReporting and Communication:
\n■ Provide regular updates to the firm owner on project status, team performance, and
\ndepartmental metrics.
\n■ Ensure transparent and effective communication within the engineering team and across
\ndepartments.
\n \nIndustry Engagement:
\n■ Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in MEP and sustainable
\nbuilding design.
\n■ Represent the firm at industry events and conferences, enhancing the company's
\nreputation and network.
\n \nQualifications:
\n• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; advanced
\ndegree preferred.
\n• Required: Minimum of 10 years of experience in MEP building systems design, primarily with
\nan MEP or multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm, with at least 5 years in a leadership
\nrole.
\n• Required: Demonstrated MEP design experience on commercial, institutional, and/or historic
\nbuilding projects comparable to those in the Moses Engineers portfolio. Candidates should be
\nprepared to discuss specific projects and their role on each.
\n• Working knowledge across all MEP disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire
\nprotection, and low-voltage), with deep expertise in at least one.
\n• Professional Engineer license preferred, but not required. Ability to obtain licensure in
\nLouisiana and other Gulf South states is a plus.
\n• LEED Accredited Professional credential preferred, with experience on LEED-certified
\nprojects.
\n• Experience designing in the Gulf South, and familiarity with the region's climate, resilience
\nrequirements, and local authorities having jurisdiction, strongly preferred.
\n• Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, BIM coordination, and
\nMEP design and analysis tools such as load calculation and energy modeling software.
\n• Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership.
\n• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
\n• Ability to act independently and make decisions in the best interest of the firm.
\n \nBenefits:
\n• Competitive salary and benefits package.
\n• Health, dental, life, and disability insurance fully covered for employees.
\n• 401k plan with employer matching.
\n• Paid time off and flexible scheduling options.
