About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director to lead its mission of providing online and mail-based harm reduction resources to individuals in need. The successful candidate will be a seasoned nonprofit leader and skilled fundraiser, deeply committed to the values of harm reduction and the communities served. Key responsibilities include setting the organization's vision and strategic direction, building financial sustainability through a comprehensive fundraising strategy, and managing external relationships. The role also involves strategic leadership, organizational development, and active commitment to racial equity. The Executive Director will be expected to have significant senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, a proven track record in fundraising, and strong people management skills. Experience in a multistate or national nonprofit, as well as in harm reduction, public health, or related fields, is preferred. The ideal Executive Director for the company will be a visionary leader, capable of expanding the organization's national reach and deepening its impact. They should be adept at fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and joy within the team, and be comfortable representing the organization at various levels, from local to national. Essential qualities include a genuine understanding of and commitment to harm reduction principles, as well as the ability to challenge legal precedents in the pursuit of healthcare and drug user rights. The role requires a leader who is energized by the work of building something sustainable, and who can inspire trust through clear, warm, and principled leadership. Personal characteristics valued by the company include being a direct, yet flexible, leader, and having a strong sense of responsibility for the security and privacy of the communities served.
