Precision CNC Set‑Up Machinist — Lathes and Mills

Picture your day starting at a spotless, organized cell you helped keep 5S‑ready. You review the work order, blueprint with GD&T, and tool list. You load verified tooling, dial in offsets, and run a first‑article check. With calipers, micrometers, height gauges, comparators, vision systems, and even CMM reports, you confirm the part is in spec. From there, you orchestrate smooth production—sometimes across multiple machines—keeping a steady flow of parts moving while communicating status and routing any issues to the right person.

As our go‑to set‑up expert, you model safe habits, champion continuous improvement, and help document best practices that elevate quality and throughput.

What you’ll do

• Own end‑to‑end CNC set‑ups on lathes and/or mills, verifying tooling matches the documented tool list.
• Maintain exceptional organization, cleanliness, and housekeeping (5S) and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Use work orders, blueprints (GD&T), sketches, and written/verbal instructions to complete assignments.
• Load/unload parts and, where feasible, run multiple machines to maximize throughput.
• Verify part conformance using CMMs, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and vision systems.
• Communicate production progress; route malfunctions and abnormalities to the appropriate contacts.
• Collaborate with teammates to resolve routine machining issues and sustain a safe, friendly environment.
• Drive quality compliance through good manufacturing and document practices and workmanship standards.
• Perform duties in compliance with applicable state regulations and standards including AS9100 and ITAR.
• Record and enter daily production and scrap in Infor Visual.
• Contribute to best‑practice development; perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands‑on CNC machining on a mill or lathe.
• 3+ years setting up CNC machines.
• High‑school level reading, math, and problem‑solving skills (or equivalent).
• Technical college training in machining is highly desirable.
• Proficient with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and no‑go gauges.
• Blueprint literacy and solid understanding of GD&T.

Physical demands

• Strong hand‑eye coordination.
• Ability to bend, lift, and transfer workpieces; alternate sitting/standing while moving between stations.
• Lift 25–35 lbs throughout the day.
• Perform repetitive tasks more than 8 hours per day and on weekends as required.
• Read fine print and distinguish colors.
• Reach machine controls positioned up to five feet above the floor.
• Wear required PPE, including safety glasses and steel‑toe boots.
