Surgical Technologist

The Certified Surgical Technologist supports surgical teams by ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment. Working under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses, this role involves preparing instruments and supplies according to preference cards, coordinating with sterile processing and materials management, and facilitating smooth surgical procedures. Expertise in surgical techniques, anatomy, and equipment use is essential to maximize patient safety during invasive procedures. Responsibilities:

• Prepare and assure completion of case carts according to surgical preference cards.
• Interpret preference cards to procure necessary instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with operating room staff and sterile processing to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review daily surgical schedules with charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential delays or scheduling issues.
• Manage core phone communications, delegate duties, and coordinate breaks and lunches within the team.
• Serve as a resource for sterile processing and surgical services departments regarding supply and instrumentation needs.
• Coordinate with materials management on supply utilization and deployment.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist training.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of surgical techniques, human anatomy, and surgical procedures.
• Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.

• Experience working in an operating room or surgical services environment.
• Familiarity with sterile processing department operations.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage scheduling and supply coordination.

• Must maintain a sterile and safe operating room environment at all times.
• Requires ability to work under pressure during surgical procedures.
• May need to coordinate breaks and coverage to ensure continuous operating room support.

• Work schedule typically aligned with operating room hours; may include early starts, late finishes, or variable shifts depending on surgical case load.
• Shift assignments coordinated with surgical team and hospital staffing needs.
