FTE: Varies based on assignment Retirement Eligibility: Eligibility based on semesterly assignment; for more information visit Position Overview The Foundations Program in the College of Visual Arts and Design seeks an adjunct colleague with expertise in Design, Visual Art, or a related discipline who understands various approaches in teaching in the Foundations curriculum. The adjunct faculty will work closely with the Foundations Director and faculty to facilitate student learning and achieve a cohesive curriculum goal for all students. Responsibilities Teach students to understand creative processes, the transferability of skill, and conceptual thinking in art and design disciplines. Teach media at the Foundations level, applying the elements and principles of art and design in various media such as drawing, 2D and 3D design, time‑based, lens‑based, and digital, within a thematic and conceptual framework. Develop and deliver lectures and lab work following the lecture/lab format of course delivery. Prepare students for rigorous college courses in visual art, design, art education, and art history. Serve occasionally as a substitute in an hourly‑rate capacity. Courses Taught (may vary) ART1600 Foundations: Perception and Translation ART1700 Foundations: Space (physical, temporal, and virtual) ART1800 Foundations: Narrative and Representation ART1900 Foundations: Systems and Transformations Minimum Qualifications MFA in Visual Art, Design, or a related discipline. Preferred Qualifications A demonstrated ability to teach and make connections across various (2D/3D/time‑based, etc.) disciplines in visual art and design. A demonstrated ability to mentor students.
