SUPERVISORY ARCHIVIST

Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Research Services. The incumbent is responsible for setting accessioning priorities and identifying, planning, and implementing archival projects pertaining to textual and special media records in the custody of the A2 Analog Records Division. Responsibilities Provide administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit, particularly through collaborative efforts. Participate in planning the work of the unit, including formulating goals and objectives and identifying opportunities for improving methods, workflow, and procedures. Contribute to the development of new practices and standards, and advise others on policies and procedures relating to the work of the branch. Analyze training needs at the team and branch levels to identify or develop appropriate training. Initiate, establish, and maintain professional relationships with archivists, archive specialists, technicians, conservators, and other specialists to share resources, information, and coordinate workflow within the unit, division, program, office, and agency. Requirements One year of experience at the GS‑12 grade level (or equivalent) that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Probationary or trial period may be required; continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary period. One‑year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Successful completion of a background investigation. Completion of a Declaration for Federal Employment at the time requested by the agency. For male applicants born after December 31, 1959, certification that the applicant has registered with the Selective Service System or is exempt from having to do so. Complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process requiring two forms of identification per Form i‑9. Designated and/or random drug testing may be required. Key Requirements U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National. Top Secret clearance requirement. Qualifications Specialized experience for the GS‑13 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS‑12 grade level (or equivalent) that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Experience must include: Leading a team, program, or project. Collaborating and executing communication strategies, plans, or policies to individuals. Managing multiple priorities (e.g., responding to inquiries, reviewing reports, recognizing errors, and reconciling problems). Additional requirements, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F): Time‑in‑Grade: For the GS‑13, the applicant must have been at the GS‑12 level for 52 weeks. Time after Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current federal employees serving on a non‑temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment. Education Individual Occupational Requirement – Basic Education Requirement for all grades: Bachelor’s degree in archival science or a bachelor’s degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history, and/or political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. OR a combination of education and experience – at least 30 semester hours that include the courses above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The education must be from an accredited (or pre‑accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If qualifying based on foreign education, proof of creditability must be submitted as evaluated by a credentialing agency.
