Elementary Teacher – Granville Academy Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job ID: 5758881 Reports to: Principal Job Purpose To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Responsibilities Management of Instructional Time : The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior : The teacher has established rules and procedures governing routine matters, verbal participation, talk, and movement during activities; frequently monitors behavior during whole‑class, small group, seat work, and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity. Instructional Presentation : The teacher begins with a review of prior materials, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples, assigns tasks with a high success rate, asks questions appropriately, conducts lessons at a brisk pace, manages transitions efficiently, and summarizes main points. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance : Maintains clear standards and due dates; circulates during class to check performance; uses oral, written, and other products to assess progress; poses questions clearly one at a time. Instructional Feedback : Provides feedback on correctness to encourage growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses and probes incorrect or no responses. Facilitating Instruction : Uses an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, diagnostic data, and student needs; maintains accurate records; utilizes available resources to support instruction. Interacting Within the Educational Environment : Treats all students equitably and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties : Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies, and regulations; follows a professional development plan and demonstrates growth. Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements : Use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs; exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects; consistent with Light Work. Data Conception : Compare or judge characteristics of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication : Speak and signal to convey information and receive instructions from superiors. Language Ability : Read correspondence, reports, handbooks, etc.; prepare reports, forms, instructional materials using prescribed format. Intelligence : Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; interpret technical instructions; handle abstract and concrete variables. Verbal Aptitude : Record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in technical or professional languages. Numerical Aptitude : Use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, divide, use decimals, percentages, and apply descriptive statistics and inference. Form/Spatial Aptitude : Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Motor Coordination : Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity : Handle items such as office equipment and hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination : Differentiate between colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament : Deal with people beyond giving/receiving instructions; adapt under stress and emergencies. Physical Communication : Talk and hear; communicate via telephone. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students in inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments.
