Exceptional Children’s (EC) Resource Teacher Granville County Schools – Granville Central Middle School (NC) Job Details Job ID: 5502311 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Re‑Posted: May 12, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description General Statement of Job: Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individual Education Program in classroom settings that are compatible with the student’s age and developmental level. The EC teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials, and designing activities to assist EC students in developing appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills to meet their IEP goals. The teacher monitors students’ progress and maintains EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines. Reports to principal. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement an instructional plan compatible with school and system-wide curricular goals and the student’s Individual Education Program. Develop, implement, and update Individual Education Programs (IEPs) using diagnostic information from assessments. Provide direct special education instruction to identified students. Employ a variety of teaching methods and adapt or develop materials to meet student needs. Monitor student behavior, maintain classroom discipline, de‑escalate inappropriate behaviors, teach behavioral strategies, restrain students when necessary, and record and report restraints. Assist disabled students with personal and self‑help needs such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks. Communicate with parents regarding educational progress via periodic written reports. Act as a case coordinator for assigned students, consulting with community caregivers, school support professionals, and parents to meet student needs. Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and state/federal statutes. Treat all students fairly and equitably, interacting effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community members. Follow a professional development plan and demonstrate evidence of growth. Minimum Training and Experience: Degree in special education and certification in at least one area of disability as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required: Physical Requirements: Must be able to use classroom equipment, lift or move objects with negligible force, stand and walk for extended periods consistent with light work. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities. Motivate students and maintain a clean, orderly environment.
