Exceptional Children's Resource Teacher

Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description Under general supervision, this position provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations. The teacher develops and implements Individual Education Programs (IEP) and classroom instructional plans that align with the student's developmental level and school curriculum. Responsibilities include lesson planning, adapting materials, monitoring progress, maintaining records per regulatory guidelines, and reporting to the principal. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Develops and implements an instructional plan compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the students’ Individual Education Program. Responsible for the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities, and uses diagnostic information from assessments to update IEPs as needed. Provides direct special education instruction to identified students. Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs; adaptation or development of materials may be required. Monitors student behavior, maintains discipline, deescalates inappropriate behaviors, teaches appropriate behavioral strategies, restrains students when necessary, and records and reports restraints. Assists disabled students with personal and self‑help needs such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks. Communicates with parents regarding their children’s educational progress via periodic written progress reports. Acts as a case coordinator for assigned students; consults with community caregivers, school support professionals, and parents to better understand and meet student needs. Maintains student records in compliance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and state/federal statutes. Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community. Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth. Additional job functions: Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in special education and certification in at least one area of disability as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required Physical Requirements: Ability to use a variety of classroom tools and equipment, lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects with negligible force; consistent with light work.
