Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality care to patients in a dynamic healthcare environment. This role requires strong expertise in neuro intensive care, specifically in managing stroke patients and related neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients with neurological conditions, including acute stroke management.
• Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and manage blood products and central lines.
• Administer continuous IV sedation and manage ventilated patients while adhering to isolation precautions.
• Conduct ICP monitoring and post-neurosurgery management.
• Utilize specialized equipment, such as external ventricular drains (EVD) and lumbar drains.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Neuro ICU setting is required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in managing a range of neurological conditions, particularly stroke patients.
• Certifications such as ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale are mandatory.
• Experience with arterial line management is preferred.
• Strong foundation in patient care management and critical thinking skills.

Work Environment

• Ratios of 2:1 with the possibility of flexing to 3:1, depending on patient census.
• The average daily census is between 11-12 patients.
• Shifts are 12 hours, primarily during the night (18:45 - 07:15).
• No on-call or weekend requirements, but weekend work will be expected every other week.
• Unit orientation will involve 24 hours of training over two days or nights.

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Unit specializes in comprehensive stroke care with advanced monitoring capabilities.
• Familiarity with EVDs, lumbar drains, Camino, LICOX, and Arctic Sun is essential.

Additional Information

Successful candidates must undergo EKG testing prior to commencing their role. Strong neuro-critical care experience is vital; only applicants with a solid background in this specialty should apply.
