Job Title: RN - Pediatric CVICU Profession: RN Specialty: Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar facility. License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with fresh open heart post-op patients - Experience with transplant patients - Experience with devices such as Aquadex, Impella, ECMO - EPIC experience - Ability/competency to float to PICU discussed during interview Description: RN position in Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Facility has 247 licensed beds. It is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a teaching hospital. It is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Certified Stroke Center. Congenital Cardiology is ranked 7th. Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit. Unit information includes 20 beds, with a centralized nurses station. Most critical patients are placed behind the nurses station. Patient population consists of very high acuity patients aged 0-18 years. Patients often have congenital heart differences that have undergone surgery or medical management before and after transplant. Common procedures include post-cath lab care, ventricular assist devices, ECMO, Impella, Dialysis, and Aquadex (Renal Replacement Therapy). Patient ratios vary based on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2. There are no CNAs, but a nursing assistant supports unit secretary duties and other needs each shift. Unit support includes a unit secretary every shift and a charge nurse floating. Phlebotomy is in-house but mainly for patients with central lines. IV/VAT Team is available. Resource Nurse also floats. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. Cardiologists and intensivists are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is centralized and at the bedside. Floating is allowed to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed. Scheduling includes weekend rotation every other weekend or fewer as needed. Call requirements are based on previous schedule. Holiday expectations are that travelers will work 75% of holidays with a unit requirement of every other holiday. Manager approval is needed for RTO. Shift times are 0645-1845 and 1845-0645. Schedule cycle occurs every 6 weeks. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, and accountability.
