The unit serves a geriatric patient population with a very low acuity census (average daily census: 36, beds: 40). The unit staffing ratio is 1:40 on nights and weekends, with a 1:20 ratio from 7p–11p during the heavier med pass, at which time two nurses are on the unit; from 11p onward, one nurse covers the unit. Acuity is described as very low — the unit has 1 Foley, 1 G-tube, and no IVs, with many residents who qualify for assisted living. An on-call MD is available after hours, supported by 2 CNAs.
