Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantOur client is an organization in the Madison area looking for a staff accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to build their general ledger experience and grow within an accounting team. The salary range for this position is $52k–78k + bonus.The staff accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:Prepare and post journal entries to support accurate and timely financial reporting.Perform general ledger account reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies.Support day-to-day accounting activities and maintain accurate financial records.Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for balance sheet and general ledger accounts.Analyze account activity and investigate variances or unusual transactions.Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports and accounting schedules.Support internal and external audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.Maintain compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.Partner with other members of the accounting and finance teams on ongoing projects and initiatives.Take ownership of assigned accounting responsibilities while proactively identifying and resolving issues.Assume additional responsibilities and more complex accounting work as experience and knowledge develop.The staff accountant will possess the following:Bachelor's degree in accounting required.0–3 years of accounting experience.Previous accounting internship or other relevant professional business experience strongly preferred.Foundational understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn new accounting and ERP systems.Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.Strong work ethic with the initiative and drive to take ownership of responsibilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively within a collaborative team environment.Desire to learn, take on increasing responsibility, and grow within the accounting profession.Equal opportunity employer.
