Cal Lutheran's School for Professional and Continuing Studies invites applicants for a full-time Lecturer position in Fall 2027. This position supports two academic majors-Accounting & Financial Analysis and Business Management-and includes responsibilities across both programs, with teaching assignments based on the successful candidate's areas of expertise. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual dedicated to teaching and mentoring post-traditional undergraduate students. We seek candidates with experience and skill in both the subject matter and in serving as a mentor for African-American, Latina/o, and/or Native American students. The minimum academic credentials for consideration are an MBA, an MS in Business Management, an MS in Accounting, or a closely related degree, and some relevant professional work experience. The successful candidate will assume Department Chair responsibilities for the Accounting & Financial Analysis and Business Management majors, beginning in their first year. The School for Professional and Continuing Studies' Bachelor's Degree for Professionals program is a student-centered learning community, designed to meet the educational needs of returning post-traditional learners (i.e., students who are 18 years or older, usually working adults). As of Fall 2025, approximately 70.8% of our Professionals undergrad students identify as being from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations, with over 62.5% identifying as Latina/o. Additionally, about 70.8% of our students are first-generation college students and 57.5% are Pell Grant recipients. We currently offer six majors leading to a bachelor's degree, each supported by a strong curriculum that gives students the knowledge base they will need to enhance or pursue a career in industry or attend graduate school. Courses are taught in an accelerated format (i.e., 8-week terms, five terms per year). All courses are offered online, with students able to choose to attend a one-hour online synchronous class meeting, or to attend classes fully asynchronously. Two majors are also offered in the traditional in-person format (Business Management being one) with classes meeting for 3.5-hour sessions at the Thousand Oaks campus. For more information, please visit: Basic Function Under the direction of the Dean, the full-time Lecturer is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned undergraduate courses. In addition, the full-time Lecturer is to serve as a mentor to students, contribute to department and university activities, and serve on faculty or university committees as outlined in the faculty handbook. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and be proficient in general topics in their core discipline(s), including Business Management, Accounting, or both. Additional responsibilities include curriculum review and development, hiring and mentoring adjunct faculty, mentoring post-traditional adult learners, collaborating with program academic counselors, recruitment/outreach, and participating in task forces/committees. The successful candidate will be asked to update online courses, as necessary. The successful candidate will teach and mentor students at the Thousand Oaks campus and online. In sum, the successful candidate will: (1) be proficient at teaching diverse, post-traditional undergraduate students, (2) have experience or demonstrate interest in teaching online and updating online courses, and (3) participate in service at the department, school, and university level. Representative Duties Teach undergraduate courses (24 or 30 units/year) with Department Chairs receiving release time for Chair responsibilities. E Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses. E Teach in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings. E Create assignments and activities that promote hands‑on, active learning, enabling students to develop their subject‑matter expertise while strengthening their cognitive, communication, and higher‑order thinking skills. E Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations. E Provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours. E Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and course curriculum. E Prepare and submit grades, data, and reports related to the course and student progress promptly. E Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E Mentor diverse, post-traditional undergraduate students. E Recruit, appoint, and evaluate adjunct faculty. E Serve as a liaison between the department and other units of the institution. E Promote the major/program to external audiences. E Work with faculty, students, and staff to establish and maintain a long‑term vision for the department that is consistent with the departmental, school, and university missions. E Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising, service, and professional, and creative activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E Attend and participate on committees and in the department, school, campus, and University meetings. E Evening hours are required. E Weekend hours may be required. E Perform related duties as assigned. E=Essential Duties Knowledge Of Current theory and practice within the subject discipline Principles and best practices of effective teaching Student learning outcomes and methods of assessment University curricula Community and campus resources, services, programs, and professionals available to students Methods of gathering, analyzing, and preparing data Modern computing technology Record keeping techniques with regard to student enrollment, attendance, and progress Ability To Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject field or discipline Oversee curriculum development and revisions for the department and review and assess academic programs offered by the department Deliver course curricula in various instructional modalities Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic background of University students Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students with disabilities Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery technologies into the learning process to enhance teaching and the educational experience Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact, patience, and courtesy Establish and maintain effective working relationships Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action Work constructively with colleagues and to treat faculty, staff, administrators, and students with respect and professionalism Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within subject field or discipline Minimum Qualifications Must possess a master's degree in Business, Accounting, or a closely related field, and have 1-3 years of applicable, professional work experience. Preferred Qualifications CPA or CMA license (active status is preferred; inactive status is acceptable) Licenses and Other Requirements None Physical Abilities Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; communicate clearly to exchange information in person and on the telephone; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files. Working Environment Online and indoor classroom environments; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus and online Zoom sessions.
