[email removed] Department Summary The Division of Student Life creates experiences and environments where all students at the University of Oregon can learn and thrive through self-discovery, growth and connection. This work is grounded the the division's values of: Community Wellbeing, Integrity, Mindful Action, Courageous Innovation, and Collaboration. Student Life includes four major portfolios, the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Well-being, and Division Administration. The Office of The Dean of Students is comprised of the following units: Community & Belonging, Student Conduct & Community Standards, Care and Advocacy Program, and Basic Needs and Off-Campus Community Support. Experiential Learning & Engagement is comprised of the following units: Erb Memorial Union, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, and Student Government Engagement and Success. Health & Well-being is comprised of the following units: University Health Center, Physical Education and Recreation, the Outdoor Program, and Club Sports. Division Administration includes: the Office of the Vice President, Parent & Family Programs, Assessment & Research, Major Student Events, Financial Services, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications. The Office of the Vice President for Student Life provides the vision for an oversight of the Division's departments, programs and initiatives. The Vice President's administrative staff provides key administrative, strategic, financial, human resources, assessment, communication and campus-wide student support. Position Summary The Director of Assessment position leads and advances divisional assessment efforts in support of Student Life's programs, services, and strategic priorities. Serving as the division's primary expert in assessment, the role develops and implements a comprehensive assessment strategy that informs decision-making, enhances the student experience, and demonstrates the impact of programs on student well-being, career preparation, and success. The position partners closely with divisional leadership to identify priorities, design and conduct evaluations, develop data tools, and translate findings into actionable insights. It also provides guidance and training to departments, supports program review processes, and helps communicate outcomes in collaboration with strategic communications. In addition, the position manages the day-to-day operations of the assessment office, including budget oversight, administration of assessment systems and tools, and development of an annual work plan aligned with divisional goals. The role collaborates extensively with campus partners such as Institutional Research, the Office of Data Enablement, and the Office of the Provost, ensuring alignment with institutional standards and best practices. Exercising a high degree of independent judgment, the position influences strategic and operational decisions with division-wide impact and serves as an active member of the Student Life Leadership Team, contributing to planning, initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Minimum Requirements • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, education research, educational leadership, social sciences, statistics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five (5) years of experience in assessment, program evaluation, institutional research, educational effectiveness, or a related field in a higher education setting. Professional Competencies • Ability to translate data into useful information for a variety of audiences.
• Ability to use and understand data from a variety of sources with an emphasis on data accuracy and integrity.
• Responsible stewardship and judgment with very sensitive, confidential student and university data.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Exceptional organizational, time, and project management skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities from multiple requestors, resolve problems, and determine appropriate action.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals throughout all levels of Student Life and the University at-large, and from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Preferred Qualifications • Doctoral degree in higher education, student affairs, education research, educational leadership, social sciences, statistics or related field.
• Proficiency with statistical packages such as R or SRS and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience working with complex relational data sets including manipulating, merging, restructuring and analyzing data.
