Assistant Principal Pay Grade: AP Salary Schedule - FLSA Status: Exempt Position Objective: The job of Assistant Principal is done for the purpose/s supporting the principal and assigned personnel; receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, district and state policies; maintaining safety of school environment; coordinating assigned school site activities; assisting students to modify inappropriate behavior and to develop successful interpersonal skills; and communicating information to staff, principal and the public. This position supports the primary function of instructional leadership with the school principal. Duties & Responsibilities Facilitates communication among school personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts. Facilitates various meetings (e.g., curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, staff development, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating agendas and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives. Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students and/or parents for the purpose of assisting students in modifying inappropriate behavior, developing successful interpersonal skills and/or initiating disciplinary action. Manages various school administrative functions (e.g., student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned teachers and personnel, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district and site objectives are met, enforcing school, district and state policy and providing for safety and efficient school operations. Prepares documentation (e.g., reports, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. Present information on various topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback. Represents school at various meetings (e.g., district, site, community, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or gathering information. Supports Principal for the purpose of assisting with their job functions of maintaining overall school site operation. Evaluates certified and classified personnel. Manages academic assessment of learners and serves as testing coordinator. Manages and is accountable for site's instructional materials. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Other duties as assigned. Responsibility Working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; managing multiple departments; and taking budget expenditures. Education & Experience Education: Master’s Degree in a related area. Experience: Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Must have leadership experience. Licensing Requirements Certificates & Licenses: Principal Certificate. Clearances: Fingerprint clearance card; criminal background investigation. Knowledge Basic math including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge of relevant codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws is required. Skills Planning and managing projects is an essential skill. Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and upgrade skills as required. Ability Schedule significant numbers of activities, meetings, and/or events. Gather, collate, and/or classify data; use basic, job‑related equipment. Work with a significant diversity of individuals and groups, handling data of varied types and purposes. Independent problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans. Maintain confidentiality; handle constant interruptions and/or changing priorities; communicate with diverse groups. Physical Requirements Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
