Unit-Based Temporary Rn Position

These job openings are for a Unit-Based Temporary Rn position with Occupational Health Services.

Note: Flu clinics begin early September with training beginning in August. Interested applicants should apply if they are reasonably confident that they will be available August - December 2026. A minimum of 2 flu clinics a week September to October is expected.

This position does not qualify for Michigan Medicine benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level.

These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the UofM professional Nurses Council.

Unit-based temporary employees who have worked 400 hours in a calendar year then become a Per Diem employee and have an obligation to pay dues or service fees as covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the UofM professional Nurses Council.

Temporary APRN employees and MVC temporary employees are not eligible for Per Diem status.

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for administering vaccinations, per established protocols, based on the nursing process, and vaccine manufacturer guidelines. Additional responsibilities include:

• Recording administered vaccine in Enterprise Health and assisting with verifying flu vaccine documents submitted via portal
• Managing clinic supplies/inventory
• Responsible for set-up and break down of clinic area and transportation of vaccine and supplies.
• Refers to the protocol (containing the signed physician’s order for vaccine immunizations and emergency treatment as well as protocols and procedures) as needed. Confirms that all systems are in place before beginning to see patients.
• Other duties as assigned.

Flu clinics are held at various Michigan Medicine locations both onsite and offsite and clinic hours vary with some weekend and evening clinics.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
• Successful completion of a program in nursing
• 6 months of acute nursing experience or equivalent
• Ability to work autonomously in a non-structured environment

This job posting is for a Michigan Medicine Temporary position. Temporary employment may be full or part time, but in either case is limited in duration. Please review the full position description for details.

Per Diem/Unit-Based Temporary Nurse Guidelines:

• Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period (8 hours = 1 shift). The contractual definition of a weekend applies for Per Diem or unit-based temporary employees. Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurses who preschedule two or fewer shifts per scheduling period do not have to meet the weekend requirements. They may add additional UNANTICIPATED SHIFTS ONLY.
• Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurse will be expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off shifts (recommended guide: 25%).
• Managers may establish additional guidelines based upon individual unit scheduling requirements. Therefore, it is recommended that managers and per diem nurses or unit-based temporary meet to discuss specific unit expectations.
• Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurse will be scheduled to work the number of shifts during holiday weeks that reflects his/her normal scheduling pattern. Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurses should be scheduled to work shifts during three out of the six holiday weeks and one of these weeks.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
