Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary:The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking an exceptional board-certified candidate with the rank of associate professor or professor to serve as Section Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC) in the Division of Surgical Oncology. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational direction that drives growth of the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Section, Division, and Department, and will exhibit a demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, research, innovation, teaching, and collaborative practice.SummaryThe Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is committed to excellence in surgical care, education, and research. Situated in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the Department's more than 280 faculty members practice at leading institutions, including Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital, and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC). The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of colorectal surgeons with clinical practice focused at the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at BLSMC. The Colorectal Surgery section boasts access to advanced laparoscopy and robotics, an NCI-designated Dan L Duncan Cancer Center, a multi-disciplinary IBD center, and an anorectal center.Job DutiesThe applicant preferably has exceptional clinical skills and expertise in colorectal surgery and strong interpersonal skills, along with a history of leadership and administrative experience relating to clinical practice, educational programs, and research activities. Candidates with a keen interest in strategically advancing science and developing a successful research career with extramural funding will be prioritized and will be expected to engage in ongoing research initiatives, support clinical trials and outcomes research, and contribute to publications and the academic advancement of the Section.Minimum QualificationsIdeal candidates will have an established track record of clinical excellence in Colorectal Surgery. Candidates should have a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching surgical learners, and experience in clinical and translational research efforts.Completion of a certified colorectal surgery fellowship and must be board certified by the American Board of Surgery, hold Fellow status with the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS). The candidate must qualify for a full and unrestricted Texas Medical License. An established track record in robotic-assisted colorectal procedures and clinical research is required.
