Special Education Teacher | Norwich, Connecticut

Job Description

Step into a meaningful, rewarding opportunity supporting high school students within a specialized behavior program for the 2026-2027 academic year. In this full-time contract position, you’ll work with a dedicated team to foster student growth and success, focusing on learners with Emotional Disturbance (ED), Other Health Impairments such as ADHD, and those benefiting from structured behavioral support.

Your workday runs from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. You’ll be entrusted with a manageable caseload of 11 students, collaborating closely with paraprofessional staff who also provide ongoing support as students participate in both specialized and general education classrooms. Some of your students will attend all core academic courses in your classroom, while others will transition in and out as scheduled throughout the day.

Desired Qualifications:

Valid certification in Special Education (or eligibility in Connecticut)
Experience teaching high school students with emotional/behavioral disabilities, ADHD, or related needs
Strong classroom management skills and experience with individualized behavior programs
Collaborative mindset for working with paraprofessionals and related service providers
Commitment to advocating for inclusive, supportive learning environments

Responsibilities Include:

Design and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) and instructional strategies
Develop behavior intervention plans and provide data-driven interventions
Create an organized, positive classroom climate and foster a sense of belonging
Monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed
Communicate regularly with families and the multidisciplinary team
