Job Title: Assistant DON for Trauma Registrar / Lead Trauma Registrar

Location: Bronx, NY | Onsite

Duration: 3+ Months | Temp-to-Permanent

Schedule: Monday–Friday | Flexible Daytime Hours (8:00 AM–5:00 PM, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, or 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) | 7.5 Hours/Day | 37.5 Hours/Week | No On-Call

Local Pay Range: $102.5 - 104.2/hr. on W2

Travel Weekly Gross: $4020 - $4220/ week - Highly Negotiable/Travel and Local Rates

Temp-to-Perm: Please only submit candidates who are interested in a** full-time opportunity** with the client after the initial 8-week assignment.

• Schedule: Monday–Friday; flexible daytime hours (8–5, 7–3, or 8–4)
• Remote: Potential for a couple of remote days per week after the new year; initially onsite.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification from AAAM — Required
• American Trauma Society (ATS) ICD-10 Certification — Required
• American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registry Course Certification — Required
• AAAM Injury Scaling Course Certification
• Active NY RN License
• NYSED Primary Source Verification of RN License and Registration
• BLS Certification

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager, the Lead Trauma Registrar coordinates daily chart input and abstraction, monitors trauma registry data for accuracy, supervises and supports trauma registrars, performs complex technical analysis of trauma patient data, and ensures accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and timely data entry.

The Lead Trauma Registrar analyzes and interprets patient data for ICD-10-CM and AIS coding, supports trauma quality and process improvement initiatives and research, maintains trauma registry data, and assists with required submissions to the New York State Trauma System, National Trauma Data Bank, and Trauma Quality Improvement Program.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Active New York State RN License
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Lead Trauma Registrar at a Level I and/or Level II Trauma Center
• Minimum 1 year of Trauma Center experience
• Report-writing experience/proficiency
• Experience with trauma registry data collection, analysis, and reporting
• Experience with ESO Trauma Registry or similar trauma registry systems
• Strong data entry and computer skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
• Knowledge of medical coding and E-codes
• Knowledge of Injury Severity Scoring (ISS) and Probability of Survivability (Ps)
• Understanding of Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) principles
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to supervise and provide guidance to junior registrars and project team members
• Must be interested in permanent, full-time employment after the initial assignment

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program required
• Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and enter eligible trauma patients into the trauma registry
• Perform chart review and collect demographic, clinical, and follow-up data
• Maintain registry data within 60 days of patient discharge
• Enter and code clinical data using AIS, ICD-10, and applicable registry standards
• Validate registry data and maintain at least 95% data accuracy
• Submit secure, de-identified data to required state and national trauma databases
• Prepare reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, research, outreach, and education activities
• Maintain patient confidentiality and data security
• Support trauma center verification and certification requirements
• Train and guide junior registrars and project team members
• Maintain knowledge of ICD-10, ISS, AIS, TQIP, and trauma registry requirements
