Senior Scientist, Molecular Biology

Gilead Sciences seeks a Senior Scientist in Molecular Biology to lead the Mammalian Expression team's molecular cloning function. The role involves designing and executing high-throughput expression construct workflows, advancing synthetic biology platforms, and directing automation initiatives to support therapeutic programs in virology, inflammation, and oncology.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership for molecular cloning operations, overseeing plasmid and expression construct design across multiple assembly technologies
• Lead development and enhancement of high-throughput construct generation platforms through robotic system integration and technology innovation
• Direct implementation of automated sequence verification workflows and manage external CRO activities for quality data generation
• Collaborate with Research Informatics and cross-functional teams to establish standardized, compliant nucleic acid data registration workflows
• Mentor team members and present scientific findings to project teams and senior management

Requirements

• Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical engineering, or related field with postdoctoral training and 3+ years industry experience
• Deep expertise in molecular cloning, DNA assembly methods (Gibson, Golden Gate, In-Fusion), and construct design for protein expression
• Demonstrated experience developing, optimizing, and scaling high-throughput molecular biology workflows for biologics discovery
• Experience implementing robotic automation platforms to increase capacity and reduce cycle time
• Background in DNA repository management, plasmid inventory systems, or sample archival infrastructure
• Experience managing external CRO partnerships and cross-functional collaboration with informatics teams
• Proficiency with bioinformatics tools such as Geneious Prime and GeneData Biologics
