Job Overview Cook Specialist II (Safety) – The Cook Specialist II directs food service operations under the Supervising Cook I in Nutrition Services at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent ensures safe, food‑safe, and HACCP compliant preparation of menus while maintaining cleanliness, safety, and a non‑hostile work environment. Responsibilities Cook and dispense food as required on regular and modified menus while adhering to physical exertion requirements, infection control, and food safety/HACCP. Maintain order, cleanliness, and sanitation of the food service area. Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned Cook Specialist I’s, Food Service Technicians, and patients. Adhere to safety, security, emergency response, and a non‑hostile work environment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Full‑time training in a recognized trade school for cooks and bakers, with proof of attendance. Background investigation clearance and medical clearance required prior to hire. For candidates using Out‑of‑Class experience, a completed Out‑of‑Class Completion Memorandum certifying OOC experience.
