Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Richmond, VA
Schedule: 2nd Shift | 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Hours: 40 hours/week | 5x8

Travel Pay: $1,200–$1,250 per week

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to support the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and medical equipment while maintaining strict quality, safety, and infection-control standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on sterile processing experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
• Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), SOPs, and work instructions .
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, completeness, and damage.
• Operate washer-disinfectors, autoclaves, and other sterilization and processing equipment.
• Accurately assemble instrument trays and surgical sets.
• Maintain sterilization records, instrument tracking, and inventory documentation.
• Document missing, damaged, or malfunctioning instruments according to established procedures.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of sterile processing equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow infection-control, quality, and patient-safety standards.
• Complete computer-based tracking, documentation, and inventory-related tasks.
• Communicate effectively with surgical and clinical teams regarding instrument availability and processing concerns.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of hands-on Sterile Processing experience .
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CRCST, CIS, or equivalent Sterile Processing certification required.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, decontamination, assembly, inspection, and sterilization procedures.
• Experience with steam sterilization and infection-control practices.
• Ability to follow detailed SOPs, manufacturer IFUs, and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Ability to receive required vaccinations and complete applicable health screenings.
