Assistant Research Scientist

Work Location: Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania

Summary:

Seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to contribute to the advancement of diagnostic technologies using AI-driven, smartphone-based platforms. This role involves supporting the development and translation of rapid diagnostic assays, working closely with cross-functional teams, and performing laboratory research. The position is part-time (30 hours/week, Monday-Thursday).

Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimize metabolic assays on paper-based microfluidic devices for in vitro diagnostics.
• Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and improve colorimetric chemistry for specific analytes.
• Apply a wide range of laboratory techniques for colorimetric and fluorometric analysis.
• Conduct literature reviews to identify target compounds and refine detection conditions.
• Collaborate frequently with engineering and software teams throughout research and development phases.
• Follow GLP and aseptic techniques in all laboratory operations, ensuring compliance and safety.
• Handle and process biological samples, including whole blood, serum, and urine, for experimental purposes.
• Support pre-clinical and clinical trial experiments, including calibration and performance testing, and present findings to multidisciplinary audiences under supervision.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.
• 0-2 years of relevant laboratory or research experience.
• Ability to independently adapt and modify research concepts and approaches for specific projects.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
• Knowledge of biochemistry, metabolic processes, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
• Proficiency in general laboratory techniques, including UV-Vis spectrophotometry, titration, chemical handling, and biospecimen handling/separation.
