PHYSICIAN III - CORRECTIONAL

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization. Premium Pay Eligible applicants may receive premium pay for the following: Board Certification Pay: $350 monthly for full‑time board‑certified employees. Jail Supplement Pay: $1.50 per hour for all paid hours in adult or juvenile correctional facilities. Opportunity The Physician III will be the primary care provider to the adult population of Orange County Jails, including women’s health and prenatal care to obstetric (OB) patients. Responsibilities include: Deliver urgent and chronic care to inmates. Perform a wide range of office‑based outpatient procedures (skin biopsies, sutures, ingrown nail removals, incision and drainage, pap smears, colonoscopies, etc.). Provide clinical supervision and oversight of four (4) Nurse Practitioners. Serve as a consultant in the subspecialty for which they hold certification. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other legal requirements. Conduct comprehensive physical examinations, order diagnostics, and manage treatment plans. Desirable Qualifications and Core Competencies Professional & Technical Expertise Provide medical and mental health services effectively while promoting patient safety. Perform comprehensive physical examinations and order appropriate diagnostic studies. Understand HIPAA guidelines and legal liabilities. Stay current on policies, practices, and trends related to correctional health. Use Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record systems. Leadership & Supervision | Developing Others Supervise, direct, and consult clinical staff. Maintain team objectives and standards. Train and develop staff to ensure adherence to procedures and protocols. Service‑Oriented Diagnose, treat, and control diseases in a sensitive manner. Demonstrate resilience and positivity in a challenging environment. Respond to and incorporate work‑performance feedback. Show empathy and genuine care for incarcerated clients. Safety Focus Use initiative and sound judgment in performing medical diagnostics and treatments. Maintain personal safety and security while providing care to unstable or unpredictable clients. Written & Oral Communication | Collaboration Provide accurate medical records and reports. Deescalate violent, aggressive, or destructive behavior safely and effectively. Communicate important medical information with health‑care team and other agencies efficiently. Use diplomacy in challenging situations and with people. Collaborate with health‑care staff and Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD). Special Qualifications/Requirements Must not have felony convictions or be on probation. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting and possibly a polygraph. Correctional Health Services run 24‑hour, 7‑day a week; weekends, holidays, evenings, or night shifts are available.
