Job Opportunity: Chief Infectious Disease Physician

Our organization is seeking a board-certified, full-time, permanent Infectious Disease physician to lead our ID service. This role involves delivering comprehensive, efficient, and evidence-based medical care to patients with infectious diseases in an outpatient setting, as well as providing consultation services for inpatient and emergency cases. The selected candidate will also serve as a key member and advisor within the Infection Control Program.

This position reports directly to the Chief of Medicine Service and the Chief of Staff. The chosen individual will engage in clinical care, supervision, teaching, research, and administrative duties, ensuring that all services align with hospital policies and community standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care as needed for infectious diseases.
• Maintain board certification in Infectious Disease.
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure high-quality care for patients requiring specialty infectious disease services.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to guarantee appropriate follow-up for infectious disease patients.
• Foster a learning environment for all providers within the Infectious Section.
• Participate in the training of clinical staff in the Infectious Section.
• Represent the Infectious Disease Section in relevant medical center committees.
• Oversee the responsibilities of Infectious Disease Fellows.
• Orient other attending staff covering clinical responsibilities.
• Engage in on-call services and teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Manage all aspects of service goals, including planning, organizing, staffing, decision-making, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting.
• Hold overall responsibility for clinical practice, program management, education, human resources, and budget management.
• Provide leadership with objective assessments and recommendations for policy and operational issues.
• Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Address medical issues, practice within the scope of privileges, and attend outpatient clinics and inpatient wards punctually.
• Maintain Internal Medicine board certification and fulfill CME requirements while participating in resident and student training.
• Conduct evaluations of inpatients, interpret tests for critically ill patients, and recommend treatments.
• Engage in work groups, peer reviews, and departmental learning activities, staying updated on medical advancements.
• Adhere to all facility and VA directives regarding inpatient medicine and veteran care.
• Provide emergency coverage for the Infectious Disease Consultation Service.
• Time for independent research in Infectious Disease or related fields may be available based on external funding.

Working Conditions

The position is based at our facility in Oklahoma City, OK, which serves as the flagship for the Oklahoma VA Health Care System. This Joint Commission accredited facility provides referral-level care to over 70,000 veterans across 48 counties in Oklahoma and 2 counties in North Central Texas.

Work Schedule

Full-time, Monday to Friday, from 08:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship is preferred; non-U.S. citizens may be considered.
• A current, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice in the U.S.
• Board certification in Infectious Disease is required.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary ranges from $145,000 to $350,000 annually.
