The Machine Operator II sets up and operates CNC equipment to produce high-quality parts in a lean manufacturing environment. This role focuses on running CNC Haas mills and related equipment, performing manual operations such as drilling and deburring, and using precision measuring tools to verify product quality. The position requires consistent attention to detail, adherence to standard operating procedures, and a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC Haas mills and equipment with Fanuc controls to produce parts according to specifications and work instructions.
• Load and unload parts into CNC machines and ensure proper fixturing and secure clamping on t-plates using appropriate tools such as torque wrenches.
• Perform outside operations, including manual machining tasks such as drill press work, deburring, and other secondary operations as needed.
• Use electric drills to perform drilling and tapping operations on products while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMP) to ensure consistent, safe, and compliant production.
• Utilize properly calibrated precision measuring instruments such as calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other dimensional inspection tools to verify part quality.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and job travelers to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
• Perform dimensional inspections on parts during and after machining to confirm conformance to specifications.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles and lean Six Sigma concepts in daily tasks to reduce waste and improve process efficiency.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, fixtures, and materials.
• Document production data and complete required departmental paperwork accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Adapt to a high-volume production environment with repetitive tasks while maintaining focus, quality, and throughput.
• Learn and follow new processes and setups as required, taking on challenging setups and striving to produce high-quality parts safely.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating CNC machines, preferably Haas mills, in a manufacturing environment.
• One year of machine operation experience on a Haas CNC or equivalent relevant experience; 3+ years of machine operating experience in environments familiar with lean manufacturing practices preferred.
• Ability to read and write at a level equivalent to a high school education to follow written instructions and complete paperwork.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other dimensional inspection instruments.
• Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings.
• Basic math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and dimensional checks.
• Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices.
• Exposure to or understanding of lean Six Sigma methodologies.
• Ability to perform manual machining operations, including drill press work, deburring, drilling, and tapping.
• Capability to work in a repetitive, production-focused environment while maintaining quality and safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Hands-on experience with Haas CNC machines and Fanuc controls.
• Experience in a production environment that emphasizes lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Comfort using torque wrenches and other hand tools to secure fixtures and components.
• Previous experience performing dimensional inspection and documenting results.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing safe, high-quality parts.
• Willingness to learn new processes, setups, and equipment.
• Ability to work additional hours as needed in a high-volume production setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production manufacturing facility operating primarily on a first-shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The environment centers around CNC Haas mills, Robo drills, and equipment using Fanuc controls, along with manual stations such as drill presses and deburring areas. Team members regularly use precision measuring tools, torque wrenches, and other hand tools while following lean manufacturing and lean Six Sigma practices. The facility operates as a high-volume production setting rather than a job shop, with repetitive tasks and regular workloads approaching 50 hours per week. Optional work is available on Saturdays for those who are flexible and interested in additional hours. Safety, adherence to SOPs and GMP, and maintaining an organized work area are emphasized throughout the workplace.

This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $21.75 - $21.75/hr.
