Qualifications Education/Certification: Graduate degree and valid license issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned; Calm and patient demeanor with students and others. Experience: Prior experience in a school setting preferred. Major Responsibilities and Duties Assist in the implementation and planning of the evaluation process to be used in the Special Education Program. Assist in staff development related to the evaluation process. Administer various informal and clinical instruments related to pupil evaluation. Interpret assessment data to parents and instructional staff. Assist the instructional staff in the utilization of information derived from the evaluation process. Participate with all special education personnel and other members of the local education agency in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the comprehensive program of special education for children with disabilities. Serve as a member of, and consultant to, campus Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committees. Assist the special education teachers in utilizing assessment data available on the student for the individualizing of instruction and interventions. Consult with teachers and parents regarding specific programs designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities. Interpret information about student behavior and conditions as related to learning. Consult with teachers, support professional personnel, parents and community agencies concerning prevention and/or intervention strategies relating to learning and behavioral problems of students. Participate in planning and managing a program of psychological services. Conduct comprehensive assessments of emotional/behavioral factors which may lead to eligibility under the category of Emotional Disturbance or Autism. Provide crisis intervention services. Conduct psychoeducational and dyslexia evaluations when requested by special education administrator. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop behavior intervention plans and to conduct functional behavioral assessments for special education, §504, and Response to Intervention (RTI). Provide staff development training in mental health, crisis intervention, and other areas involving psychology in the schools. Serve as district liaison for the purpose of identifying students who may need mental health intervention. Assist in the development of classroom curricula involving mental health issues (e.g., suicide prevention). Serve on district evaluation and review teams, as assigned by special education director. Provide supervision for LSSP practicum students and interns. Compose reports that meet established standards of practice and complete reports with specified timelines. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required by federal and state rules and regulations and District policy and procedures. Comply with federal and state law, Commissioner’s rules, and District policy and procedures in the area of special education. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Comply with all District and local campus routines and regulations. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. Provide direct student intervention as needed (e.g., counseling, behavior intervention, etc.). Complete all other duties as may be assigned.
