Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Geriatric Psychiatry Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 11.5 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, 2 years of psychiatry experience preferred License: Client RN License Certifications: BLS, CPI or PMCS Certification required Must-Have: Great organizational skills Description: The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research. The nurse will deliver patient care by incorporating the tenets of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process based upon theory, research, and evidence-based practice. The nurse will assess and evaluate patient care needs and apply critical thinking skills in patient care management. The role involves integrating relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care is essential. Patient care will be prioritized, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care. The nurse will educate patients and caregivers about their plan of care and anticipate their needs and readiness to learn. Effective and professional communication with patients, family, and all members of the care team is crucial. The nurse will manage assignments within the care delivery model and demonstrate effective allocation of material resources. The nurse will role model the tenets of Relationship Centered Care. Consideration of the patient's values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge is necessary in all aspects of care. Establishing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family is important. Using evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patients' perceptions of care is a responsibility of the role. Initiating service recovery for patients and families with concerns is necessary and should be escalated as needed. Demonstrating caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening is required. The nurse will conduct purposeful rounding on assigned patients addressing their needs. Practicing safe and efficient patient-centered care while identifying opportunities for improvement is essential. Demonstrating clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served is a key responsibility. Implementation of process improvement strategies based on evidence and hospital procedures is required. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects is expected. The nurse will contribute to quality and safety practices and compliance measures. Implementation of principles of high reliability to ensure a safe environment for patients is necessary. Potential safety hazards must be escalated following the appropriate protocols. Utilizing information technology by documenting nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives is part of the role. Performing charge nurse duties as assigned and coordinating with management to ensure adequate supplies and inventory for patient care is expected. The nurse will escalate resource deficits to management as needed. Demonstrating patient-focused and cost-effective approaches to care in terms of resources is important. Accurate and thorough documentation in compliance with requirements and standards of care is required. Facilitating patient throughput on a shift basis is a responsibility of the role. Contributing to a supportive environment for clinical colleagues and patients is essential. Advancing clinical competence in nursing practice and projecting a professional image to colleagues is required. Incorporating ethical principles into decision-making for patients and families is a must. Encouraging a spirit of inquiry, lifelong learning, and innovation is expected. The nurse will acquire knowledge and skills relevant to the role and patient population. Participation in shared decision-making through practice councils and unit initiatives is crucial.
