Trial Attorney (Detail to Office of Immigration Litigation) Organization: Office of Immigration Litigation, National Security and Enforcement Location: 1100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20530 Overview This is a reimbursable detail opportunity within the Office of Immigration Litigation, Denaturalization Unit. The detail may begin as early as August 1, 2026, with a potential to extend to three years, and could convert to a permanent position without further competition. Responsibilities Litigate civil denaturalization actions, maintaining active dockets of affirmative denaturalization cases. Coordinate with law enforcement and federal immigration agencies on case matters. Conduct motion practice, discovery, and trial and appellate practice in federal district and appellate courts nationwide. Represent the United States in complex, high‑profile cases involving terrorists, violent criminals, sex offenders, fraudsters, human rights violators, and war criminals. Address first‑impression constitutional rights, statutory interpretation, and federal authority over immigration matters. Engage in foreign discovery when required, and manage all aspects of case prosecution at the federal level. Qualifications J.D. degree or equivalent and active membership in any judicial bar. At least one year of post‑J.D. legal experience. Current Department of Justice Attorney and U.S. citizen. Excellent academic credentials with outstanding advocacy and legal writing skills. Experience in investigations, drafting and arguing motions, managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, and trying cases. Highly motivated with sound judgment and creativity. Preferred: Judicial clerkship experience; familiarity with constitutional challenges and enforcement of federal laws. Additional Requirements Under a detail assignment, the selectee’s base pay does not change; the position is filled at the employee’s current grade level. The role requires a current background investigation and eligibility for Top Secret clearance; a current clearance is not required, but the appropriate investigation must be completed before assignment. Conflict of Interest Disclosure Applicants must disclose any existing client representation or adjudication that may create a conflict or potential disqualification. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $121,785.00 to $197,200.00 per year (GS‑13 to GS‑15). Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
