Job Title: Service Technician / Truck Mechanic Job Description

This role focuses on performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on trucks and related components in alignment with manufacturer standards and established shop procedures. You inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and braking systems, ensuring each vehicle is returned to a safe and fully functional condition. You document all work performed, communicate findings clearly, and complete tasks efficiently and accurately in a professional truck shop environment.

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on trucks and related components in accordance with manufacturer standards and shop procedures.
• Read and interpret repair orders to understand required work, parts, and timelines.
• Prepare work areas by securing the necessary parts, tools, and equipment before starting each job.
• Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles, including hydraulic systems, braking systems, lighting, engines, transmissions, PTOs, and trailer frames.
• Complete 70–80% of work as warranty repairs on trucks, focusing on hydraulic systems, brakes, lights, engine diagnostics, transmission diagnostics, PTOs, and trailer frame work.
• Swap out motors and transmissions as needed, ensuring proper installation and operation, while generally not performing full rebuilds on site.
• Use electrical testing equipment to perform electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting on vehicle systems.
• Document all work performed accurately, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations for future service.
• Communicate findings, repair needs, and completion status to appropriate personnel in a clear and timely manner.
• Ensure each vehicle is restored to a safe, reliable, and fully functional condition before release.
• Use hand and power tools daily in a safe and efficient manner.
• Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
• Service primarily International and Freightliner trucks, adapting to different models and configurations as needed.
• Work collaboratively with other technicians and shop staff to complete work efficiently and meet productivity expectations.

• Hands-on experience performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on trucks or similar heavy vehicles.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues, including engines, transmissions, and related components.
• Experience working with diesel engines and diesel repair tasks.
• Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic systems on trucks and related equipment.
• Knowledge of braking systems and ability to perform brake inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
• Experience with electrical systems, including electrical testing and diagnostics on trucks.
• Capability to perform truck repair, including work on frames, PTOs, and related systems.
• Daily use of hand and power tools with safe and proper technique.
• Ability to read and interpret repair orders and follow manufacturer and shop procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and documentation.
• Ability to work efficiently in a structured shop environment and manage multiple work orders.

• Previous experience servicing International and Freightliner trucks is beneficial.
• Ability to bring and use personal hand tools and basic equipment is preferred.
• Willingness to learn dealership-level procedures and standards if not previously trained in that environment.
• Strong communication skills to clearly explain findings and repair needs to internal stakeholders.
• Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and professional conduct in a shop setting.
• Openness to shift-based work schedules, including occasional Saturday rotations.

The team supports continuous learning, giving you exposure to a variety of modern trucks and systems while working alongside experienced technicians. The schedule is predictable, with defined shifts and limited Saturday rotations, supporting a stable work-life balance.

You work in a clean, well-lit truck shop designed for professional heavy vehicle service. The role involves daily use of hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. You primarily service International and Freightliner trucks, handling warranty and non-warranty work. Available shifts include 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with multiple openings on each shift. New hires typically train on the day shift or a split shift for 2–4 weeks before transitioning to their regular schedule. Technicians rotate to work every sixth Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., providing a largely consistent weekday schedule with occasional weekend coverage.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
