Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, business-minded marketing and advertising professional to serve as Fractional Chief Operating Officer (COO)for an established, full-service marketing and advertising agency.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned agency leader who combines strong marketing expertise with operational management, financial oversight, and team leadership skills. Working closely with the CEO, the Fractional COO will assume primary responsibility for managing agency operations, leading the team, overseeing financial performance, and ensuring the successful delivery of client services.

The CEO will remain actively involved in the agency's overall strategic direction, key client relationships, and long-term growth initiatives.

The position will initially be structured as a fractional executive role, with the potential to evolve into a full-time leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

Agency Operations & Team Leadership

• Provide leadership and oversight of the agency's day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient workflows, accountability, and high-quality client service.
• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of creative, digital advertising, social media, and project management professionals.
• Oversee resource allocation, project priorities, team performance, and operational efficiency.
• Establish and maintain effective processes that support productivity, profitability, and consistent service delivery.
• Serve as the primary point of leadership for internal team operations, escalating strategic decisions to the CEO as appropriate.

Marketing Strategy & Client Oversight

• Provide senior-level strategic guidance on client marketing and advertising initiatives across a diverse range of industries.
• Work with the agency team to ensure marketing strategies, creative development, and campaign execution align with client business objectives.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of integrated marketing, branding, traditional advertising, digital media, social media, and emerging marketing technologies.
• Participate in key client meetings, strategic planning, and presentations as needed.
• Support client retention and account growth through strong service delivery and strategic oversight.

Financial & Business Management

• Maintain oversight of agency financial performance, including budgets, operating expenses, profitability, and resource utilization.
• Work closely with the CEO, bookkeeping team, and external financial advisors to review financial reports, cash flow, and overall business performance.
• Monitor client and project profitability and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and margins.
• Assist in developing annual budgets, financial forecasts, and operational priorities.
• Make informed business recommendations that support the agency's financial stability and sustainable growth.

Executive Collaboration & Growth

• Partner closely with the CEO on agency restructuring, strategic priorities, and long-term business development.
• Help identify opportunities to strengthen service offerings, operational processes, and agency profitability.
• Collaborate with the Business Development Manager on new client opportunities, proposals, and strategic presentations as needed.
• Provide executive-level leadership and recommendations while maintaining alignment with the CEO's overall vision for the agency.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, Communications, or a related field.
• At least 5+ years of professional experience in marketing and advertising, including significant agency or marketing team leadership experience.
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary marketing and creative teams.
• Strong understanding of integrated marketing strategy, digital advertising, social media, branding, and creative development.
• Proven experience with  P&L oversight, budgeting, financial management, and operational planning.
• Experience managing client relationships, agency workflows, and service delivery.
• Strong business judgment, organizational skills, and ability to independently manage priorities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable leading a remote team and collaborating with an actively involved CEO.

Preferred

• MBA or advanced degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline.
• Previous senior leadership experience within a full-service marketing or advertising agency.
• Experience improving agency profitability, operational efficiency, and organizational performance.
• Familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation, analytics, and emerging AI marketing technologies.
