Description Automotive Transmission Technician - Essential Duties
- Performs transmission repair as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory time allowances and standards.
- Diagnoses the cause of malfunction.
- Removes and disassembles transmission unit and performs repair.
- Examines vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
- Advises service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be made.
- Installs repaired transmission, replaces fluids, and makes appropriate adjustments.
- Road tests vehicle when required or refers to test technician.
- Documents work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has changed the vehicle's appearance or condition.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Immediately reports any safety issue to management.
- Other tasks as assigned.
