Communications Manager

The Communications Manager manages The Arc Arapahoe, Douglas & Elbert Counties' day-to-day communications and outreach function. Working under the strategic direction of the Director of Operations, the Manager translates organizational priorities into clear communications plans, coordinated outreach efforts, effective campaigns, and consistent public messaging.

The Communications Manager supervises the Outreach Coordinator and is accountable for coordinating communications, outreach, and event work; setting priorities and timelines; reviewing and approving routine materials; managing competing projects; and ensuring work is completed effectively and in alignment with organizational goals.

This is both a management and professional communications position. The Manager remains actively involved in high-priority communications work while ensuring routine outreach, event coordination, social media implementation, and other assigned work are delegated appropriately.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, content development, or a related field
• A minimum of 3 years experience supervising professional staff or leading the work of others, including setting expectations, providing feedback, addressing performance concerns, and ensuring follow-through
• Excellent written, verbal, editing, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Strong project-management skills and ability to coordinate multiple priorities, deadlines, and contributors
• Ability to make sound decisions within delegated authority and elevate sensitive, high-risk, or organization-wide matters appropriately
• Experience with website content management, email marketing, social media, digital analytics, and design or publishing tools
• Knowledge of brand management, accessible communications, plain language, and inclusive messaging
• Ability to create, edit, and evaluate communications for varied audiences and formats
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including in emotionally sensitive situations
• Knowledge of or ability to learn The Arc ADE's services and issues affecting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families
• Ability to work independently while maintaining appropriate communication with the Director of Operations
• Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends
• Reliable transportation required

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage the organization's communications strategy in alignment with organizational priorities.
• Develop communications plans, calendars, timelines, messaging, and materials for campaigns, events, projects, and ongoing outreach.
• Supervise and support the Outreach Coordinator, including setting priorities, reviewing work, providing feedback, and coordinating workload across communications, outreach, social media, and events.
• Maintain the organization's brand, voice, visual standards, plain-language practices, and accessibility expectations across communications.
• Create, coordinate, and review key organizational content, including publications, presentations, email communications, website content, social media, outreach materials, and major campaigns.
• Manage the organization's website, email communications, social media strategy, editorial planning, and other digital communications platforms.
• Coordinate media relations, public-relations opportunities, press materials, organizational messaging, and sensitive or high-profile communications in collaboration with leadership.
• Establish and oversee outreach and community-engagement priorities, partnerships, and relationship-development efforts.
• Manage the organization's event portfolio, including priorities, timelines, staffing, communications, promotion, accessibility, and coordination with the Outreach Coordinator.
• Represent the organization at selected community events, meetings, presentations, committees, and professional activities.
• Track and evaluate communications, outreach, digital, campaign, and event performance and recommend improvements based on results.
• Collaborate with leadership, staff, consultants, vendors, volunteers, and community partners to support organizational goals.
• Maintain organized communications resources, project documentation, templates, and records.
• Perform other duties consistent with the scope and level of the position.
