Job Title: Lead Carpenter

Lead Carpenter Job Responsibilities: 

Reporting directly to the Foreman, the Lead Carpenter is responsible for completing assigned work to the highest standard while providing leadership, training, and support to other members of the construction team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assess the worksite and understand what needs to be completed next to keep the project moving forward.
• Lead weekly safety meetings and promote a strong culture of safety on every jobsite.
• Train and develop General Laborers in the various trade skills required to successfully complete residential remodeling projects.
• Step into a Foreman role when the Foreman is away from the jobsite, as directed.
• Lead small teams and/or projects at the discretion of the Foreman.
• Properly implement and enforce safety procedures and practices on the jobsite.
• Work professionally and effectively both independently and as part of a team while communicating and coordinating with other trades and professionals.
• Perform and oversee a variety of construction tasks throughout each project, including carpentry, painting, decking, drywall hanging and finishing, flooring installation, tile work, framing, and general job site maintenance and cleanup.
• Keep up to date on applicable building codes and construction standards.
• Continue developing trade knowledge and advancing skills through hands-on, on-the-job training.
• Complete assigned tasks thoroughly and ensure the work area is clean and organized before moving on to the next assignment.
• Maintain a high standard of craftsmanship and quality throughout each project.
• Set a positive example for other team members through professionalism, work ethic, communication, and attention to detail.

Educational Background: 

• High school diploma or GED required, or
• At least three years of experience working in the construction industry.
• Leadership experience in the construction industry is preferred.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, including heat up to 100&degree;F and cold as low as -20&degree;F.
• Reliable transportation to and from various job sites.
• Ability to safely and efficiently work from ladders and scaffolding.
• Ability to safely work on roofs.
• Ability to safely operate a variety of power and motorized construction tools.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to lead, teach, and communicate effectively with less-experienced team members.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
• Willingness to ask questions and seek clarification when unsure how to complete a task safely or correctly.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

• At least two years of leadership experience in the residential construction industry.
• At least five years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in residential remodeling.
• Licensed in a skilled trade or currently attending or graduated from a trade school.
• Experience leading small construction teams or projects.
• Experience in residential remodeling is strongly preferred.

Work Schedule:  

Monday–Thursday | 7:30 AM–5:30 PM

Job sites are generally located within a 30-mile radius of Grand Rapids, Michigan. 

Compensation & Benefits:  

• Competitive pay: $24.00–$34.00 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education.
• Semiannual employee performance reviews.

• $250 annual clothing allowance.
