Cleaner (Hospital) - Full Time Evening Shift (Alternating Weekends)

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, Cleaners are responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and care of the hospital rooms, coordinators, and adjacent grounds. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization. Responsibilities Wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside or outside of buildings using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers and other cleaning implements. Collect, transport and dispose of medical waste or spoiled linens in accordance with cleaning procedures. Strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; and dust assigned areas using manual or mechanical equipment. Clean and scrub all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, shower walls and drains, tile floors, and locker room common areas. Clean and polish furniture, metal fixtures and equipment. Remove hazardous articles on floors, furniture and equipment and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations. Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning activities, or set up for meetings or special events. Change curtains and drapes and hang pictures and other decorative objects. Empty trash, recyclables and waste in accordance with cleaning schedule. Assemble cleaning cart to conform to assigned cleaning duties, and mix and properly dilute cleaning solutions in accordance with manufacturer directions. Wear appropriate protective clothing and other specialized protective equipment as required by the cleaning assignments. Check supplies and equipment functioning and notify supervisor of low supply levels, equipment malfunction, and building maintenance issues noted during cleaning. May be assigned to remove snow and salt walkways; clean sidewalks, yards, and drives; and mow lawns with manual or mechanical equipment. May be assigned to laboratories, clean rooms, operating rooms, or other settings that require a high degree of cleanliness and disinfectant processes to minimize the spread of infection. Qualifications Required : Non‑competitive; must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and to communicate effectively to obtain and convey information. The ability to read, write, speak, and understand verbal communication at a basic level. Preferred : Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the hospital industry. Excellent interpersonal skills, time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with all levels of the organization. Compensation The salary range for this position is $35,496 per year. Additional annual supplemental pay may include location pay ($4,000) and inconvenience pay/differential ($575).
